Dr Jean Kaseya, Director-General, Africa CDC. A public health physician from the Democratic Republic of Congo, he served as a senior adviser to the DRC government and led the country's national immunisation programme, before leadership roles with UNICEF, GAVI, and the World Health Organization. Africa CDC's first Public Health Emergency of Continental Concern, declared for mpox in 2024, came under his leadership. As architect of the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda, he has led the continent's push toward common health data governance, including a shared framework for how health data is collected, protected, and used across Africa.
