Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General, World Health Organization, since 2017. As Ethiopia's Minister of Health from 2005 to 2012, he built a nationwide network of 40,000 health extension workers, a reform credited with roughly halving child and maternal mortality against 2000 levels, before chairing the Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. His tenure at WHO has spanned Ebola, COVID-19, and, in 2025, the adoption of the WHO Pandemic Agreement, the first binding global accord on pandemic prevention and response. Since 2018, the Triple Billion targets he introduced have anchored WHO's work in tracking measurable impact in universal health coverage, health emergency protection, and population health.
