Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar, Vice-Provost (Health), University College London. A professor of infectious disease epidemiology trained in medicine at Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria. He is a member of the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board and chaired the WHO Clinical Trial Forum. Until 2019, he chaired the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Tuberculosis, whose work contributed to a decline in new tuberculosis infections worldwide between 2015 and 2018. As chair of the Lancet Nigeria Commission, his findings shaped the passage of Nigeria's National Health Insurance Authority Act, recognised in 2023 with Nigeria's Officer of the Order of the Niger. In 2025, he was elected to the US National Academy of Medicine.
