Dr Louise Mapleh Kpoto

Dr Louise Mapleh Kpoto, Minister of Health, Liberia, since February 2024. An obstetrician-gynaecologist by training, she holds an MD, MPH, and PhD, and was inducted as a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons in 2025. Within her first year in office, she used metrics to prioritise, track, and deliver results, restoring uninterrupted essential drug supply to all Liberia's health facilities and mobilising significant resources. In June 2026, she presented Liberia's first national health insurance bill, the Liberia Health Equity Fund, to make safe pregnancy and essential care affordable for every citizen regardless of income or location.
